Topic (Day One): Evaluating, Analyzing Investigations, Interviews,
and Statements
Topic (Day Two): The Electronic Courtroom: Litigation Imaging and Trial Technology
Speaker (Day One): Sgt. Randy Patterson, founder of Universal
Investigative System. He has 25 years
as a homicide detective, fraud investigator, property investigator,
polygrapher, investigative planning and patrol with the Winston-Salem Police
Department. Randy is a Certified Law
Enforcement Instructor. He graduated
from UNC-Charlotte with a degree in Criminal Justice and did his graduate
studies in Informational Studies at UNC-Greensboro. He is the author of Managing and Measuring the Investigative
Process (1988).
Randy's course is very unique in that he goes beyond
the interview and teaches the student how to analyze the investigation, the
interview, and the statements that you get from the interview. He is the only one in the nation that
teaches a course of this nature.
Speaker (Day Two): William Gallup, Criminal Defense
Attorney; Judge John Colburn of the Nebraska Third Judicial District and Don
Klein, Douglas County Chief Deputy Attorney.
Mr. Gallup has extensive experience as a criminal
lawyer. He is a former Omaha City
Prosecutor, Douglas County Attorney, and Assistant U.S. Attorney. Mr. Gallup is an author and national
speaker. Mr. Gallup has defended many
high profile clients in the Omaha area.
He will provide the defense attorney's perspective during a fraud case.
Judge Colburn has presided over many white collar
criminal cases and has extensive knowledge of the judicial system. He will provide the judge's perspective
during a fraud case.
Don Klein has prosecuted many white collar criminals
and will provide the perspective of the prosecuting attorney during a fraud
case.
Comments: Approximately 75 people attended the conference. The cost of the conference was $125 for both
days and 14 CPE hours were offered. The
seminar was held at a conference room at AGP, Inc. in Omaha, Nebraska.
